FAQS

liquid hydrocarbon treatment

  • Are Apollo chemicals unique blends?

All of our chemistry is either Patented or Patent-Pending chemical blends .

  • What happens to the sulfur in Apcotane or Vap-X Oil blend?

The Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) is disassociated due to a PH neutralization. When one of the Hydrogen molecules separates it shifts the Sulfur molecule out of the Sulfide phase. Then the HS- and H+ molecule is bound to an organic acid that is present in the oil chemistry products. This reaction ties up the sulfur molecule, not allowing it to revert back to the sulfide phase (making reaction irreversible). Since the organic acid is Carbon based essentially the sulfur molecule is attached to a carbon chain. This allows for there to be no harm or deviation in the refining process.

  • What does it do to my oil – integrity of the hydrocarbon?

The integrity of the hydrocarbon is intact. In fact, previous testing has shown improvement in the light hydrocarbon chain.

  • Is it exothermic?

It is non exothermic reaction, therefore it can be used to treat inorganic sulfides (e.g. iron sulfide)

  • Is it pyrophoric?

It is a non-exothermic reaction, therefore it can be used to treat inorganic sulfides (e.g. iron sulfide)

  • Can it be shipped in bulk?

Product can be shipped via rail, truck, or ship.

  • Is it a scavenger?

Apcotane is a scavenger in essence but is much more from a chemistry perspective.  The performance of our oil chemistry is based on stream dependency not molar reaction or bacteria consumption.  Unlike a scavenger our chemistries are a single life application – it does not create precipitants – and it is not corrosive to metals.

  • Is it corrosive to metals?

It is not corrosive to metals and has an irreversible reaction with hydrogen sulfide.  The reactive complexes are a neutral PH.  Based on SGS testing it is not corrosive to metals, and we can provide this 3rd party testing.

  • Is the treated crude pipeline grade?

Yes, Apcotane and Vap-X Oil  improves the quality of the oil by mitigating sulfide gasses and neutralizing the hydrocarbon acids.

  • Is it refinery grade?

We have 3rd party testing by SGS verifying our product meets spec for refinery grade. We also have a full crude assay to verify we do not alter the fractional distillation cuts of the oil.

  • Does it change the API?

There could be very minimal changes to the API. All oil is different but prior testing shows API could be adjusted less than 1%

  • Do we adjust the PH of the oil?

One very beneficial thing is the PH is brought to a neutral state after the oil chemistries are utilized. They neutralize the hydrocarbon acid complexes (organic and inorganic acid complexes)

  • Is this product readily accessible?

The product is readily available in mass quantities.

  • Has the viscosity of the oil changed?

The viscosity and density of the oil experiences a minor alteration based on the displacement of the acid gasses.. Thus reducing the Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP)

  • How does it compare to caustic treatment?

#1 Our Apcotane and Vap-X Oil chemistry dosed correctly does not have any precipitants out of the oil. Unlike caustics that will cause precipitation which can also lead to scaling in pipes, our liquid hydrocarbon treatments will keep everything in solution.  #2 H2S will not re-emerge if the PH is adjusted or changed once it is treated with Apcotane or Vap-X Oil.

  • What is the nature of the reaction product(s) that is(are) formed from Apcotane or Vap-X Oil + H 2 S, and can it(they) be quantified to get a mass balance of the sulfur?

Apcotane and Vap-X Oil are patented technology. They can be quantified to get mass balance of sulfur. Our chemistry is built around increasing the PH in the water vapor and the organics which will allow the H2S to disassociate. This will also take the sulfur out of the sulfide phase. Then a secondary reaction takes place by combining an organic acid with the HS - molecule.

  • Can Apcotane and Vap-X Oil concentration in solution be monitored continuously along with the reaction product(s)?

Yes it can be monitored continuously.

  • Are there any safety or health issues with respect to handling and storing Apcotane or Vap-X Oil?

Our liquid hydrocarbon treatments fall under federal, state, and OSHA guidelines along with company safety regulations.  Our SDS also addresses chemical handling and required PPE.  (Click Link to see our SDS)

  • Do we have a chart showing different areas of application of our liquid hydrocarbon treatment Upstream & Downstream, for example which is the best location of chemical dosing in Upstream and Downstream application and results observed.

Upstream – generally after the water separator

Midstream – in tanks at gathering location

Downstream – typically in a tank farm or continuous flow

  • On which parameters is the dosing rate of Apcotane and Vap-X Oil dependent on, is it universally the same or does it depend on the H2S content, Water % and other parameters.

There is a slight increase based on H2S ppm and the API of the oil. Ideally we would like to separate out the water, because the molecular structure of the two elements are not the same base, and the solubility of water is greater than that of oil.

  • Does the dosing require special training or special equipment’s/ pumps, or existing dosing pumps and local technicians are able conduct the dosing.

We would test a sample at a testing facility to pre-run a sample to verify dosage rate in the field. As far as application it is handled as basic chemistry. We also utilize standard compatible chemical pumps.

  • What is the shelf life of Apcotane or Vap-X Oil

    5 Years – Closed Container

  • Apcotane and/or Vap-X Oil is exported in Liquid form or powder form, if powder form what is the usage procedure

    Liquid form.

  • Does Apcotane or Vap-X Oil require any additional chemical or diesel blending before dosing or is it pre-blended and ready for dosing upon arrival at customer facility.

    Pre-blended.

Gas hydrocarbon treatment

  • Where does spent chemistry go?

Our Vap-X gas chemistry is combined with a water reagent through our Tergeo application.  After the mixture exits the scrubber it is either trucked off or dispersed thru the headspace of a produced water tank.

  • What is the Tergeo Gas Footprint?

For our typical 1-5 MMCF the skid would be 8’x16’ and scaled from there depending on gas flow volume.

  • Is the Tergeo skid internally coated?

    Yes.

  • Is the Tergeo skid automated?

Yes, our skid can be fully automated or a portion automated depending on customers’ situation.

  • Does it require maintenance?

Standard maintenance is prolonged with our water flush system built-in.

  • What is the operating pressure?

Standard is <250 PSI but it can range up to 2000 PSI.

  • What type of pumping system is required?

System can operate with either electric or pneumatic pumps.

  • Does the skid offer H2S or CO2 monitoring?

Yes both systems can be added to the inlet and/or the outlet.

  • Do you rent or sell the Tergeo Skid?

Skid is rented with our chemistry.

  • What water makeup is required?

Our skid can incorporate well water or RO water.  As long as it has low levels of salt and carbonate.

  • What is the typical water ratio to chemistry?

It is typically equal to or less than the chemical dosage.  Contaminants play a role in water ratio.

  • Does the chemical and water utilize the same injection point?

No, they utilize different injection points throughout the skid.

  • Is any other hardware required?

Depending on the gas stream in question, we have put a coalescer on the front and an additional knockout after the skid.

  • Is the Tergeo skid necessary to utilize the Vap-X gas blend chemistry?

Not necessarily - in certain applications we will design/build a spool piece to interact with the existing scrubber.
